The WIRC Athletic Academy aims to foster elite-level development among Grenadian youth by bridging the gap between raw talent and technical mastery. Rooted in Coach Dwayne's extensive experience as a track and field coach and athletic consultant, WIRC is committed to contributing to the advancement of local sports culture through organized and thoughtful programming.
"It's Okay to be EXCELLENT. Why not WIRC?"
Coach Dwayne brings elite experience both as an athlete himself and as a veteran coach. In high school at the Collegiate School in New York City, he won a New York State title in the 4 x 800 meter relay and a national championship in the 4 x mile relay, with that relay running, at the time, the #2 fastest relay in NY State history.
After a successful career at Dartmouth College and briefly professionally (finishing 3rd in the 2014 Brooklyn Marathon), boasting personal bests of 1:51 (800m) and 3:54 (1500m), 14:47 in the 5000m, and 78:12 in the Half Marathon and 2:58 in the Marathon, Coach Dwayne transitioned to coaching cross country and track and field as a teacher at the Collegiate School in New York City.
He currently directs the Nice Unicorns Track Club and serves as the Head Boys cross country coach for Ferris High School, while privately coaching elite middle and high school runners across the Greater NYC area. Having previously developed New Balance All-Americans and athletes who now compete collegiately in the NCAAs, Coach Dwayne is committed in helping each athlete achieve personal success.
Growing up, Coach Azal played both outfield and goalkeeper, developing the technical skills and game understanding that helped him become a successful modern goalkeeper.
As a high school athlete, he won three NYC Public School Championships, three New York State Cup Championships, and three New York State Premier League titles; as an NCAA Division I goalkeeper, he earned numerous accolades, including serving as captain of a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championship team.
Today, Coach Azal is passionate about sharing his knowledge and experience with young athletes, helping them develop their skills, confidence, and understanding of the game to reach their highest potential.
